Cold Sweat formed on June, 9th, 1981, in the New York City borough of the Bronx.
The band played a style of music often described as a heavy metal/punk rock hybrid.
The founders of the band, Russ Mate (drums/keyboards), Keith Haase (guitar), and Warren Kitt (bass), and Rich Casale, came together to form Cold Sweat after the demise of the band Social Disorder. Social Disorder’s lineup, in addition to the founding members of Cold Sweat, also included James Freund on drums, and Mark Davis on lead vocal. During their time in Social Disorder, Russ played keyboards.
There was a brief interim project that followed the end of Social Disorder which was named The Frenzy. The lineup of The Frenzy included Russ on drums, Keith on guitar, Warren Kitt on bass, Rich Casale, and Lonnie Sherman on drums.
The Frenzy lasted maybe a month or less. With the end of The Frenzy, and the beginning of Cold Sweat, Russ became the band’s drummer.
